Target Species
The flats around Islamorada and Key Largo offer year-round opportunities, but each species shines during specific seasons and conditions. Bonefish are a staple and can be targeted all year, with the best action typically coming on calm, sunny days when visibility is high. Permit fishing peaks in the spring and early summer, especially around spawning periods when larger fish gather on the flats and wreck edges. Tarpon are most abundant from April through July during their famous migration, offering some of the most exciting sight-fishing of the year. Redfish and snook are more commonly targeted in the cooler months and shoulder seasons, often found along mangrove shorelines and in slightly protected waters when temperatures drop. Barracuda are available year-round and provide explosive strikes, particularly on bright days when their aggressive nature makes them ideal for both spin and fly anglers.
Where We Fish
Fishing takes place across the legendary flats surrounding Islamorada and Key Largo, where miles of shallow, gin-clear water create ideal conditions for sight fishing. These areas feature a diverse mix of hard sand flats, turtle grass beds, and mangrove-lined shorelines, all of which hold different species depending on tides and seasons. On a typical trip, you may pole quietly across open flats scanning for tailing fish, or work the edges where deeper channels and basins meet the shallows—prime ambush zones for predators. The proximity of these fisheries allows for quick adjustments based on weather and conditions, ensuring you’re always fishing the most productive water available.
